David McDowell has writen from Australia In memory of David Statham, Stanley Black and Geoff Stride which we have posted in the memorial section of the website.

After a year acclimatisation at the base on Signy Island he took the opportunity to spend a year further South at Horseshoe base. The voyage proved entertaining with the relief ship holed by an iceberg. It was at least two days before the ship's Mayday signals were picked up and a whaler arrived to give support followed by HMS Protector.

His memoire describes the field trip to obtain Emperorer penguin eggs on which David Staham, Stanley Black and Geoff Stride were lost.
