The work to create the Southern Monument is essentially complete.  It will soon be leaving the Pangolin Foundry, Chalford for delivery to the Falkland Islands on the British Antarctic Survey ship, RRS James Clark Ross.  Trustees have been at the foundry to see the latest work.

The Monument is a rigid structure of bronze and polished stainless steel.  Crating it for safe transport by road and sea is the next hurdle to be overcome.

The structure

The bronze will weather green with age while the mirror finish of the stainless steel will stay very bright.
