Graphic History of Antarctic Exploration

New web-based graphical representation of Antarctic Exploration
Category: General
Posted by: Rod

A web-based graphic showing the History of Antarctic Exploration has been created by specialist Antarctic cruise company Hurtigruten in collaboration with the United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust, UKAHT.

The graphic shows a map of Antarctica and links the places first visited and track of the voyages. Starting in 1810 with the discovery of Macquarie Island by Australian Frederick Hasselborough and the South Shetland Islands by Englishman William Smith in 1819 the graphic moves through the years to 1917 when Shackleton rescued his men from Elephant Island.
